ASEAN NOW
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has approved passenger tariffs for travels on the future Laos-China Railway. On November 25, the ministry issued a notification recognizing the Department of Railways' recommended ticket rate for the Laos-China Railway. Two Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) trains, as well as a normal train service with discounted rates, will be in service along the line, according to the announcement. Services will run from four major stations, stopping at five different locations. Depending on the distance, fares range from LAK 38,000 to 529,000 (CNY 21 to 249). Passengers will be asked to present photo identification and a valid Covid-19 immunization certificate produced no later than 72 hours before to boarding the train, according to the notification. Passengers are recommended to arrive one hour prior to departure, using their ticket as a guide to enter the station and undertake safety inspections. Passengers should wait in the waiting room after checking in, as a ticket inspection will take place 20 minutes before the train departs. Three days prior to the departure date, tickets will be available for purchase. Agreement on Cross-Border Transportation The first inter-governmental agreement on railway cooperation between China and Laos was signed on Tuesday for the Laos-China Railway, which is set to open this week on Friday. The agreement will provide a legal foundation for cross-border movement of people and goods along the railway while also maintaining effective operations. The chiefs of China's National Railway Administration (NRA) and Laos' Ministry of Public Works and Transport virtually signed the agreement. BAD mistake putting a station next to this tiny town...it's going to sink under the sheer numbers of Chinese as the station fully comes on line next year...
