PHUKET: Confusion over exactly who owns a plot of land has left an absent homeowner now in Germany with a bill of B50,000 to have a water-vending machine removed from in front of her house, despite the machine being installed in a drainage ditch which is supposed to be on public property administered by the local municipality and the machine now partly blocking her driveway.

The coin-operated water-vending machine was installed some two months ago, confirmed people living in the street, Baan Bang Whan Rd in Moo 1, Kamala.

The water-vending machine is of the same type installed elsewhere by Kamala Tambon Administration Organisation (OrBorTor). The machine, branded “Freshy Drinking Water”, is accompanied by a 500-litre tank of drinking water for local residents to use.

Are the people that install things like this not have a brain between them ?? How can they install something right in front of someone's driveway. Really thick as swine feces.

those tanks always spring leaks.

50,000 baht? I think a pickup truck at night can remove this quite easily, oops...

You are coreect but that won't stop them from trying. ????

when you read the full article it seems pretty obvious that the owner of the land is miffed that she wouldn't share the cost of buying the land and has placed this there on purpose. If I was the homeowner this wouldn't concern me in the least as I would accidently reverse into it many times and just a few more to make sure ????

Always charge the farang . Thais would never pay , but a farang may be scared to get problems with police or immigration and PAY .

Their policies of intimidation of foreigners by setting up illogical and needless hurdles pays out like this .

The ' cash cows ' need to be milked .

Because that is what we are , nothing else .

Another reason I live in a quality fully-gated community, and not in a stand-alone building, set on a public street.

Not so easily the 500L water tank.

Maybe that's why they installed it over a drainage ditch ????

Edited, as I read the Phuket News full story.

it appears the machine is on someone else's land in front of the land she owns. I suggest she moves the driveway.

Cannot access your property across someone else's land, without an easement or some form of agreement, which, I suggest, would include not installing stuff to prevent access...

Were it me, this would have accidentally fallen over, the tank too after it sprung an accidental leak.

Why do you assume that the owner is a farang? Because that person lives in Germany? But farangs cannot own land and property legally in Thailand. The house possibly is owned by a Thai wife, and I doubt that anybody would order something like that to block their own driveway.

I agree with what you say that farangs cannot own land and property legally in Thailand.

However, the attached article (Phuket News) states that the home owner was foreign:

Ms Mali explained that she invited “the foreigner” who owns the house to go halves in buying the small plot that once was beside the public canal, but now includes the area in front of the foreigner’s house.

Mind you, the whole story is full of contradictions and confusions.

Let's hope nobody steals the tank and machine during the night.

Actually the full article says that the land owner didn’t install it, a “community agency”" asked if they could install it on the land, the owner said yes, if they pay for the power used. It seems the local moo baan association don’t have an ounce of common sense between them.

Where you have absolutely no control over the 'public' land

What an incredibly spiteful thing to do. A backhoe in the night should solve the problem but driven by a stranger of course.

Where I live my wife owns the houses and the land so for me it is not a problem, unless she divorces me or dies before me.

Yes  - there are some VERY important Thai people who live in Germany

Blame it on the community agency. Why would they ask to put it in such a location regardless of who's property it is?

Same for me, our houses are in my wife's name.

At least Mrs. Bert can sleep safely with the knowledge that Mr. Bert could never afford to finish her off. ????
