Laundry Lady

Featured Replies

Hi Girls (and I guess Boys) and Bluecat :D

Ok- it's low season here, Im the only farang female around these days, and every day a new Thai acquaintance wants to sell me some land or clean my house (or something) I just smile and say no Thanks!

I have a great laundry service. Everything washed and ironed for the month for peanuts and delivered to my house. I'm happy about that.

So few minutes ago the laundry lady stopped buy wanting payment 2 weeks EARLY.

I pay every month in advance the same time I pay my rent.

So here the question:

Do I smile and let the money flow or do I say no sorry I dont have it until its due.

It's not the money -I have the money, its the POINT. Im afraid if I pay her, my landlord will be knocking next and whomever else.

I've seen it many time before how everything changes when the money stops in Thailand.

:o

Hello ... "HelloHello"! :D:D

This can be a sticky situation. I know it's not the money but the principle. I guess you'll have to inquire the lady why she needs the money in advance? Is it a big emergency? (though of course, she will say it is) In my opinion, if you have a contract with your landlord, it's unlikely he or she will ask you the same favor. I guess I didn't help you much :o

Thanks, I think your right.. Its not much money and being my village is so small it cant hurt to be generous. I just find it a thin line between generous and stupid. :o

True! That's why it's all an art to live in Asia sometime! (and perhaps some other places). It's important to be generous up to a certain extent so people don't think you're too cheap but also you have be careful not to let them think you're an easy prey to be ripped off! :o

Give it a try and ask if it s ok if you re 2 weeks late next month :o

Definitely on way.

And a very busy one way street,...

I would pay it this time to keep things nice, but if it becomes a regular thing then smile sweetly and tell her you don't have the money to pay it until it's due!

My landlady tried this, got the rent off me a week early and I didn't even think about it, then she tried again the next month and I sent my Thai husband over to her to explain we didn't have it. She never asked for it early again! :o

Excellent idea! Quite an over the top thing to do for 200Bt, but when it comes to 'larger' issues, I resort to my girlfriend or a Thai friend to do the talking. In your case, delaying tactics might help, i.e. I don't have the money in the house right now etc., neither saying yes or no, so she'll have to come back to ask again if she is serious. This might drag the issue on, though. The easy way out would be to say you don't have the money, either, but who would believe this!?

I don't think there is an easy answer, if you are concerned about being taken advantage of or causing offence. Small as it might seem now, it is a good training for more serious occasions!

Where do you stay by the way? In a tourist resort I would simply say NO.

Hi Girls (and I guess Boys) and Bluecat :o

I do many things.

Many, many things.

But the laundry,Hellohello.

Come on.

Isn't it a girl thing?

But on the question not specifically related to laundry.

Do you have to pay in advance?

No.

Whatever the amount.

G'dayG'day hellohello..

There must be a lot of it going around at the moment.

This month I was asked by my maid to be paid early for the next 6 weeks. Then 2 days later the guy that washes my car asked for an advance on his next pay 3 weeks early.

Neither of them have ever tried it on before and I've had them both for over 8 years... icon8.gif

PS. I think you'll have to put up a "Girlz Ownly" sign. There's lots of them boys gettin' in here... :o
