Amazing Thailand: "Stairway to Heaven" amuses - and concerns - locals in Sattahip

Thai engineers constructing a pedestrian bridge outside Makro in Sattahip in eastern Thailand have built it around a power pole replete with wires and cables.

Daily News went there and found locals and tourists scratching their heads in collective "Thailand Amazement".

Obviously if left that way it would be highly dangerous.

Though still under construction it was deliberate as there was a hole for the pole about three quarters of the way up. It would take a lot of money to put right.

Nobody was around to explain why it was like this.

The media suggested ironically that it could become a "sculpture landmark of Sattahip."

Here at ASEAN NOW we prefer "Stairway to Heaven" as anyone using it in its current form could be well on the way to meeting their maker!

Presumably this is a schedule thing - they are planning on moving the pole later, and filling in the gap.

But the construction crew would never challenge or comment, way above their status/station, very impolite, that's the way it is.

This is the result of an education system that indoctrinates you into not asking impertinent questions but just do as you're told.

It's not the first time they have done that.  Plus some roads with poles in the middle of the lane.

And the same people who commissioned this think it's dangerous to serve beer and wine with a meal ????????????

Not only is it stupid but how dangerous for the workers, bet they didn't even disconnect the power during construction
