snoop1130
Soi Dog Foundation is warning against the unmanaged sheltering of stray dogs following an outbreak of canine distemper virus at a government-run facility on the island of Koh Kood in Trat province. Transmitted through direct contact and airborne exposure – namely sneezing, coughing, and sharing food and water bowls – the virus swept the island in a matter of weeks. A total of 30 dogs have died and a further 100 have been infected as a result. Rather than impounding dogs with little forethought for their future care, the foundation is urging authorities to prioritize a program of sterilization and vaccination on the island – a long-term strategy that will help humanely reduce the dog population on the island and stem the spread of infectious diseases. “The intention to care for these dogs is impressive, but shelters are costly and difficult to manage,” explained Soi Dog’s Community Relations Manager Sakdapol Thongjan. “If not managed properly, the disease spreads, and animals suffer like we have seen here with distemper.” Full Story: https://thepattayanews.com/2021/12/22/soi-dog-foundation-warns-of-dangers-of-sheltering-amid-distemper-outbreak-on-koh-kood/ -- © Copyright The Pattaya News 2021-12-22 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates
brianthainess
Years ago on Koh Chang, I saw This happen and have been told it has been done again recently, Ranger dart shoots dogs drags them in the shade, followed by a vet who cuts off the balls, 15 min later dog wakes up. These Rangers are trained to shoot darts put them to use on Koh Kood a short boat ride away if they don't already have rangers.

Humanely reducing the dog population is to cull the loitering Soi dogs so they don't have to suffer from all the Ticks and fleas/Mange /and don't have to get hungry and won't be hit by cars and bikes and won't be able to chase people and Bite them.
