Long term stay options once TV and TV extension expires.

Recommended Posts

I realize COVID extensions may be continued in the future, but what I am interested in is convenience. Not the cheapest solution.

1. Arrived 17 Nov on a 60 day TV (EU passport, perm resident in Japan)

2. I will get one regular 30 day extension in mid Jan when my TV expires - CAN I DO THIS ONLY ONCE?

3. If so, then I would prefer to pay for a more "legitimate" visa ( for lack of a better word) to stay for a period of 6 months at a minimum, to one year more at most. I am actually seriously interested in learning Thai, or maybe even Muay Thai.....just to have something to do.

WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS IN THIS REGARD?

I am staying in Phuket.

TIA for any tips. Agents - please feel free to contact me as well.

Your best option probably is to find a school that is able to supply the paperwork to apply for a non-ed visa at immigration and then extensions of stay before the end of the 90 day stay the visa allows.

A university might be the best option if you can enroll in one.

I am 48, Sir.

At 50 you can obtain a non O retirement. So that's not available to you at the moment.

A friend, also 48, used agent to obtain non O volunteering and that suited his needs. They seem currently difficult.

You could look at non O Education.

Expert such as ubonjoe can advise on best path for that. My understanding its possible, especially if studying at certain schools.

You could also consult with a visa agent for advice re options.

Obviously keep an eye on covid extensions to see if they are extended past Jan 25.

My guess is that they will be, given current situation.
