BANGKOK (NNT) - The Ministry of Finance is preparing a new round of registrations for state welfare cards this year, with plans to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) in order to ensure that only low-income earners receive the cards.

According to Deputy Finance Minister Santi Promphat, the AI filter will be linked to state agency systems to verify registrant information in real time and screen out those who do not qualify.

Benefits of the state welfare card program include a monthly payment of 300 baht if a registrant’s annual income is less than 30,000 baht, or 200 baht per month if annual income falls between 30,000 baht and 100,000 baht.

All Thais aged 18 and over can apply for the program, which has been a key policy of the ruling Palang Pracharath Party.

To be eligible, an applicant’s bank savings must not exceed 100,000 baht and their annual income must also be no more than 100,000 baht.

For the latest round, the deputy minister expects 14-15 million applicants to be eligible after about 14.6 million qualified for the cards last year. He added that those who previously failed to qualify may now be eligible if their savings has since dipped below 100,000 baht.

They need 'AI' to process that simple requirement?

The mind boggles.

I have no doubt this will be a complete disaster, they should try hiring someone with actual intelliegence rather than rely on the artificial kind.
