NYY Cable question

MJCM

Recommended Posts

I asked my supplier for prices on NYY cable 10mm2 and 16mm2

They came back with the question: Above Ground or Under Ground usage. ????

I thought that NYY was rated for usage above ground and underground, am I mistaken??

TiA

Edit: I replied to them just gave me both prices and they will get back to me!

Don't know why there would be a difference in price if its the same cable. Under/over whatever.

I don't know YET if there is a difference in price, hopefully I know today.

Under/over whatever indeed the same as I thought, that is why my question.

Why would they ask if it was used above/over?

It certainly could be but the cables are not the same. The NYY has all cores of the same size but the NYY-G has at least 2 phase cores with a ground cable that is often smaller than the phase cores.

Thx!

So is that a good thing? And in your opinion which is the better cable? The NYY-G one? Or it doesn't matter?

I will hopefully know today what the price difference is, but as soon as I know I will report back!

"Ground" and "Unground" I think I see a potention misunderstanding here ????

Maybe, Phase conductor/s, or phase conductors with protective earth conductor leaves less room for confusion? ????

But if you should carry the PE with the phase conductors or must not carry it is a rather more complex point.
