Hi

I'm  a seafarer originally from UK ( been living in thailand for 10 years plus ) been working on a ship in UK waters for a few months mainly outside the 12 mile limit but with port visits every couple of weeks , have been working tax free as non resident  but my UK tax specialist  has said I should speak to a thai tax specialist  to see where I stand regarding  tax as I have to either pay tax or be registered  for tax somewhere

Does anyone  know a good thai tax specialist  to talk to to get some advice

Been working offshore for years and similar situation. Thailand does not tax overseas earnings of non citizens or permanent residents. There is also another rule where if the money earned is not brought into Thailand in the year it is earned it is not taxed. So not a good idea to get salary sent directly to Thailand and you will qualify for both rules.

Is a bit harder to get a Thai tax number. What I did was went down to the local Revenue office I think it is with a copy of a bank statement showing I had paid tax. They then issue you a Thai tax number so you can do this. You now have a Thai tax number and a way to get refunds on tax paid on bank accounts.

Cheers

I would just go with the first part of Litlos post and do nothing.

Foreigners living in Thailand don't pay Tax on overseas income. It's only if your going to earn money from any source here that you'd need to do something.

I have had my overseas wages go straight into my Bangkok Bank for a long time and no questions asked.

Cheers Guys , I now get paid into an online bank ( wise) & just transfer to my thai bank when required  whilst keeping  most in the online bank so should be ok with that

Just to let you know

Having an on line bank account in the uk does not exempt you from the income  rules in the uk tax system. i believe wise have a place of business in the uk,

Sorry to throw a spanner in the works but , i'm not sure what your tax status is in the uk with regards to uk income.

Also if your calming seafarers allowance in the uk , you need to be a uk resident to qualify for it.

( i think ) :jap:

Maybe check all this with your uk tax adviser

as something don't sound right here.

You may also wish to look at offshre bank accounts, jersey, isle man as have different tax

rules.

Same, more than 20 years, no questions.

Problem is getting the money out of Thailand, if need be.
