Do not assume COVID pandemic reaching 'end game', warns WHO

GENEVA, Jan 24 (Reuters) - The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) warned on Monday that it was dangerous to assume the Omicron variant would herald the end of COVID-19's acutest phase, exhorting nations to stay focused to beat the pandemic.

The numbers for Thailand just are not adding up as far as I can see. Between the case numbers they list and other areas list its an abacus nightmare.

GF told me a few ago, her salon where she works and also teaches has now been closed because of to many cases in the community.

Here in the US, even with numbers as high as they are life is pretty normal.

The numbers have to be really fake , Mrs told yesterday that Loei had 130 case.In Loei town live about 60000 people! Girls school in Wang Saphung close coz so many cases in school. Even that school has been open before even almost all other schools has been open.

Here in Finland still have many restriction's but they not isolate people anymore, even if one family member is infected others can move as they like.

Not sure where ourworldindata are getting their figures from but for its last data point the 23rd Jan it is showing a case count of 10,860 whereas the official dashboard on the 23rd showed only 7,686 PCR positive tests carried out. Seems like we now have a range of different figures for Thailand along with the ATK tests.

PCR test positive cases, total of 6,718 official new infections. 12 official covid deaths recorded.

Rapid tests positive cases, 2,032 bringing the total of PCR and ATK results to 8,750

That 11k figure is the one quoted on the CNA website. Wondered where it came from. Thank you.

With death rate low and infection rate high the most informative graphic would be the daily number of hospitalizations. I'm not seeing that number in in English or any rolling average graphs. Anyone know if this info is available?

Don't test you won't find it's that simple.. I'm British. Look at the test rates there compared to here with countrys of similar population..

Well it appears Omicron has a variant BA.2 of its own now...this is starting to become a nightmare of epic proportions. It does not appear we can get out ahead of this virus before it mutates again and again.....

BA.2" is a sub-variant of omicron and has been labeled “variant under investigation" by health officials in the United Kingdom who say they are now monitoring the newest strain.

Today, Jan 26 2022. In Thailand COVID deaths 22,057, Canada 32,000, USA, 894,000, deaths according to world o meter.

World total of about 5.67 million.

I am just glad that there is a vaccine to help us stay alive. I wonder how this virus compares with the Spanish flu of the

early 1800s, for being fatal, like the first 3 variants.  Still lots of people dying all over the world, but I guess the latest

omicron variant is not killing as many, but it seems that a lot more children are now getting sick. It will be a nice

day when COVID is a distant memory, that is for sure.
