BANGKOK (NNT) - Dr. Sukij Atthopakorn, the adviser to the parliament speaker, said the House of Representatives is set to continue its scheduled meetings this week despite 9 MPs having been tested positive last week.

Dr. Sukij said the outbreak in the house was originated by Siripong Angkasakulkiat, a Bhumjaithai Party MP for Si Sa Ket.

Despite recent infections, Parliament President Chuan Leekpai decided that meetings from Wednesday to Friday will proceed as scheduled. Mr. Chuan stressed that parliament must be able to function regardless of the pandemic.

Dr. Sukij said the areas in parliament where the eight infected MPs had been working have been cleaned while all other areas are scheduled for regular cleaning.

On January 27, Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul attended a House meeting where he joined his Bhumjaithai Party MPs, including Mr. Siripong, in addressing a motion. The two also stood close to each other while the Bhumjaithai party was presenting a bill on cannabis to Mr. Chuan.

Meanwhile, Senator Somchai Sawaengkarn suggested the names of all infected MPs be disclosed after the latest cases brought to 12 the total number of MPs to catch the virus since January 1.

Previously, Det-it Khaothong, a Democrat Party for Songkhla, Akradet Wongpitakroj, a Democrat MP for Ratchaburi, and Digital Economy and Society (DES) Minister Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn of the Palang PracharathParty, had been tested positive.
