Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister affirms no flood this year

The Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister, Mr. Thira Sutabutr, is confident that the water management plan can handle the flood situation during this year's rainy season.

In response to the farmers' concern over the inadequate amount of rainfall in the central region during the harvesting season, Mr. Thira says he has coordinated with the Royal Irrigation Department in releasing water for the farmers from time to time. He says relevant agencies will monitor the water situation on a daily basis. and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has cooperated with the Meteorological Department to oversee the level of water accordingly.

Mr. Thira affirms that the farmers will not experience severe inundation like last year because Kwai Noi Dam can now hold 360 million cubic meters of water.

The Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister says Tha Chin River will be an important source of water for the central region. He says the canals will be excavated to ease the waterways and to prevent flood from occurring.

How much water could it hold last year? How much rain did we get last year? How much rain will we get this year? What if it rains really bad downstream from the dam? What good would the dam do then?

Promises involving the control of mother nature are dangerous to make.
