Shade loving plant questions

Featured Replies

Hi folks, I do not, repeat, do not have a green thumb but want to fancy up the front of my humble abode.

It is well shaded so does anyone out there in plant land have any suggestions for an ornamental plant that enjoys the shade?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I've modified the post title slightly to avoid confusion with plants to provide shade ????

Are you looking for large / medium / small plants? To grow in containers?

Thanks Crossy, I guess just small to medium plants that can add some green or color to my front steps.

Consider Imapatiens or flowering begonias.  Some are good in shade.  I have n attractive 'begonia' with dark red leaves and yellow flowers which flourishes in shady areas.  Foliage plants like Coleus might also be good.   Light levels re high here so you can get away with plants not considered for shady areas

(1) Are you planning on putting plants in pots, or in the ground?

(2) Is the shade from a tree which is sucking water from the ground leaving it very dry?
