A few years ago, I was diagnosed with HCV during a routine physical and altho the disease has remained dormant, as most HCV cases do for 30+ yrs, I now [according to my dr.] may need to face treatment. Having a Thai family and settled here in LOS, I have resigned myself to the Thai medical system, so going back to the west for treatment is out of the question.

So, I'm putting this out there to seek other's advise regarding treatment here. Does anyone know of anyone else living with and/or under treatment for HCV here in LOS??

please pm me if you know.....

Have you had a liver biopsy done yet to determine your vial load Parts per million of the virus itself & what are your numbers on your biopsy. I found out I contacted it in 1985 with a blood transfusion in a workman's comp injury. I didn't even know I had been given blood till 1 & 1/2 ago. 14 people recieved the tainted blood & I guess I am now 15 San Diego Ca. Knows of contracting the bad blood. Your numbers on your biopsy reveal the extent of damage & scaring to the liver. mine are 1 1 1 3 The 3 is cumulative.

What does your alt ast blood test workup reveal. The normal range should be ALT: 0-40 normal AST: 0-37 normal.

This may very according to age but as well as a test for possible cancer (prosrate-testicle & more that I am aware of I am sure)

Your ALT as well of your AST will most definitely be elevated. Since these 2 tests are related directly to your liver enzymes.

Expect them to be high mine are around Alt from 143- 210 & my Ast 92-160 I have been monitoring these levels since 1994 when I got testicle cancer. (over it & clear for almost 13 years Thank God) Once you have contracted A B or C your Levels may go up & stay high, relax I found out one of my Techs in The U.S. had liver problems & her numbers were both in the 600 range.

Mine have leveled out at Alt 200 or so & AST at 135 AVERAGED NUMBERS .

These tests are the most important to get done as they will give you a guide of seriousness of treatment.

I went to Pattaya International . It was about 40,000 baht altogether. The blood test for ppm of viral load is $250 or more USD

I am not sure where your at in your diagnosis, but they tried to sell me a 700,000 baht inferon treatment that will Guaranty takeYears of your life & the other drug they use in conjunction is to boost your blood count level so they can keep you pumped up with the Inferon. It will make you feel 100 years old like the incredible hulk only it is the marrow within your bones regenerating at a level that most humans cannot bare. I had the marrow inhibitor once a week when I had cancer & the chemo was easy the marrow inhibitor is hel_l .I only had to do it once a week. Hep C western treatment you do the inhibitor once daily.

After my biopsy & viral load test (around 2,500,000) I have heard of 20,000,000 And people are still walking today.

If your numbers are low as mine are you can opt for Chinese Herbs Colloidal silver & liver supplements & milkthistle & Yin chao to keep you from getting run down cols or flu's will bring on attacks as the virus seems to multiply.

Along with altering your diet. IF YOU DRINK ALCOHOL QUIT TODAY, this is the # 1 DEMON & it will kill you slowly & hurt like heck.I know I have tried last year 4 out of 4 times I had 1 drink I paid for it severely. I have 2 of the best cancer & liver specialists coaching me as well as my Dr. here in Pattaya that have all concurred that an alternative treatment should suffice as my levels are low & not ultra critical. If you smoke cigarettes I would kiss them good bye as they will bring your ability to stave off any types of disease, & thats the key.

This year I picked up only 225,000 on my viral load due to 3 bouts of activity & being stupid & drinking 4 times. All my doctors concurred at this rate I could be looking at a liver transplant If I watch myself in my 90's. I am only 51 going on 52 & hope I

don't make it to my 90's anyway. My life is GOOD & I function virtually normal.

I will give you advice & help but you still will need your doctor as I can fix anything in the auto truck boat or train but I am not a Doctor of human Parts.

First thing get your numbers & biopsy if you have not already & you can go from there.

I have 6 friends that got Hep C several form the army & navy from those ###### air guns they inject 6 or more vaccines into the soldiers arm at once if you flinch it breaks your skin open ever so slight & you get what the last 20+ people had in there blood with yours. My friend Billy still drinks with his wife 2 bottles of wine & has had it for 35 years. He does pay dearly for this vise as he has a lot of health issues & doesn't care.

While your situation isn't great. It is not the end all to fret over,as if you take care of your body you will most likely die of old age. All the Herbs & holistic treatment are all legal & available in Thailand & no I am not turning Blue -silver from the colloidal silver water. all my doctor's tell me it is good stuff used in the 40's for health.

You can post your levels on line or PM me. You are making the right choice to nip this in the bud.Cause I sure would rather ave

Hep C & a lot of posters on this site also have than MS or Parkinsons disease any day of the year.

You should be able to score vast amounts of info here. so far I have not seen more than one negative poster about colloidal silver- About Quackwatch that has been under investigation for lying about many so called things they have researched. They are owned by 3 major drug companies that want you to by their product , like the tobacco industry would tell you to keep you smoking You can look at the websites, thats what I did. PM Me if you would like. The other great news is the liver is one of the only organs that will regenerate!

Peace be with you brother ....you are not alone.

I'm no expert, but i just got done reading scartissue by the lead singer of the red hot chili peppers.  he had hep C and underwent a regimen of natural herbs, and then also used ozone.  The Dr. later tested him and the hep c did not register.  Not sure what his regimen consisted of as he didn't say.

Wow, thanks beardog esp!!! i have had the test done viral load, genotype [1] and boipsy a couple of years ago and have been in denial since then forgetting all those numbers, but my last ultrasound revealed some fibrosis...no cirosis. Within the month, i will go in for my bi-anual check-up and request copies of my results and relay them to you. i have been taking milk thistle for a few years now and can't say if [or not] works. dr only says it can't hurt.

again, thanks for the info, encouragement and support and i'll keep you posted.....

Actually Thailand is not a bad place to be with this...hepatitis and other liver diseases are more common here than in the west so quite a few specialists and specialty clinics.

Treatment won't be cheap due to the high cost of the drugs which are patented imports. For that reason cost may not vary too much from place to place so unless inpatient hospitalization is needed I wouldn't bother trying to cut sost by going to a govt hosp.

Bangkok Hospital has a special GI & Liver Clinic with several very well qualified docs e.g:

Dr. Wanich Piyanirun- did a stint at the Mayo Clinic in the US

Prof. Varocha Mahachai -trained and worked in US & Canada, board certified in both as well as in Thailand.

Sounds like you may be in good shape I have similar prognosis. It is not real severe till you have cirroses

that what eats up the liver . Glad to hear you have been taking milk thistle!

Keep me posted on your numbers!

Good luck You are doing the right thing -denial is the worse thing to do as I do believe you can resolve a liver issueif you take care of your health!

There is another recent thread on Hep C on here - it has some info.

I work in Clinical Trials - we run a lot of our HEP trials at Chula Hospital - we only use recognised KOL's and reknowned experts in their field

Hi mate

I'm Hep C too. Although I've tried the Interferon treatment back in the UK, but I came off because it was contra-indicated at that time because of my bouts of depression.

I know that this, and combination therapies are avaiable in Thailand, also knowimg of one person who underwent that as prescribed at Phet'buri. But as Beardog says, it's not nice and neither is it cheap.

My life is fairly without complication, apart from re-occurring cellulitus in the leg due to a compromised immune system.

I did give up the booze some years ago because I didn't want the scarring on the tissue of my liver to progress. It seems to have disappeared altogether now ?!?

Anyway, chok dee mate. And you're not alone.
