The Health Ministry said yesterday that Cambodia had not recorded any death cause by malaria since 2018. Huy Rekol, the ministry’s director of National Center for Parasitology, Entomology and Malaria Control said this was largely due to more people following health measures to avoid getting bitten by the anopheles mosquito.

“There were 4,279 case of malaria last year which decreased 54% compared to 2020. And there was no fatality since 2018 which was three years before the zero-death target of 2020,” he said. He was speaking at the ministry’s annual meeting, held in Siem Reap province, to review its work done last year.

Rekol said that as a result, 95% of those who go into the forests now sleeping under mosquito nets to protect themselves from getting bitten.
