Us Visa For Thai Wife

Featured Replies

I have been in Thailand since the end of January, and recently got married to a Thai. I will be working here for at least the next two years. She owns a condo just outside Bangkok, that she has a loan on. I have a business visa and work permit.

Is there much chance in getting a Visa before Christmas, because I would like to take her to meet my parents, brothers and sister?

Have you registered the marriage with the U.S. embassy?  If not do so now.  I don't know how long the process takes now, but a few years ago we were able to get a 10 year tourist visa pretty quickly.  Probably longer now though as we got our pre 9/11.

I haven't yet. Thanks I will. Is that done through American Services?

Yes at ACS.  Getting registered is a good first step.

There is no requirement or need to register your marriage wuth the embassy to get a tourist visa for your wife. You just need to take the marriage certificate with you to the visa interview. No need to have it translated either.

If you need to prove your marriage in the US you should have the marriage certificate translated and then certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

You need to go to the website and make a an appointment. At the interview the approval (or disapproval) is immediate.

Well, depending on where in the US she would be going, it should take her 18-30 hours to get there.

Oh, you meant how long to get the visa? :o

What kind of visa are you talking about?

A very helpful web site to get the answers for your basic questions is at Visas to the US. This will show the process and includes a link to a site that will give the wait times for interviews.

The whole process for a tourist visa can be done a few weeks at the most. A spousal vias can take 8-12 months or more (less if you live in Thailand).
