Thai husband kills wife driving over her in his backhoe at railway construction site

Naew Na reported on what appeared to be a tragic accident during construction on the new twin track railway in the area of Bor Takhor station in Ratchaburi.

 

Pak Thor police and rescue services were called after a man called Kaikaew, 45, drove his backhoe over his wife Amporn Peema, 40.

 

The lady was part of a husband and wife team. She would look out to make sure that the backhoe could proceed and should have been on the side of the vehicle.

Unfortunately she seems to have been in the wrong place and her husband couldn't see and drove over her. 

 

Workers at the scene were shocked by the tragedy with the husband telling police he had no idea what he had done. 

 

Police are talking to all witnesses at the scene.

Very similar accident in the US a few days ago when a bulldozer driver at a giant landfill operation couldn't see properly because he had the front blade raised, and crushed a porta potty with a traffic control man inside. Those are difficult jobs.

This is awful.

 

But given her job was to be a look out, there should be an agreement between them both that he can see her at all times and if he can't at any time he doesn't move.

 

I have read other accounts of people driving over a spouse or a child or dog and care needs to be taken every single time there is an an intricate manouver situation

 

I have a car that I back into the drive from the road. My wife opens the the gate and the car has about one meter clearance either side of the gate entrance but sometimes, because the road itself is quite narrow, the backing in can involve being closer than one meter to one of the sides. This means that for the entire time (four years) I have lived with this situation, I have instructed my wife to stand in a position well  away from these sides and nowhere near the point I will be reversing into the car parking space itself that is also a tight fit.

 

RIP that poor woman.  And for the husband to have to live with a tragic accident.

Your wife was the safety person to signal a clear path, did you see her?
