Although not a huge percentage the high use of this drug does make it a serious concern per recent report.

Metformin is responsible for some 9 years above the average life span. 
That for patients taking it over a longer time. 
has also anticancer properties

...babies who had paternal metformin exposure also tended to have parents who were older and of a lower socioeconomic status, which may play a role.

 

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.  And whether another Pharma is coming out with a new, safer and more expensive alternate.

They prescribed metformin for me at first and I had a terrible reaction, took a week to get over it.  Now I'm on glipizide, seems to be holding me together.  Every other diabetic I know is on metformin.

At 70 I'm not too concerned with causing birth defects . . .
