Many of Thailand's top brass at the Royal Thai Police got together yesterday for a "what to do about Songkran" meeting.

They used the latest software in the form of Clubhouse with the chair going to Pol Gen Roy Ingkhaphairoj, reported Siam Rath.

The force agreed a widespread plan to make sure that Songkran is safe.

This included regulations to be followed at checkpoints and other procedural matters.

One item on the 8 item checklist, called for decisive action against places of prostitution if they break the law.

Along with action against local police if they are foolish enough to turn a blind eye to what is going on in their jurisdictions.

Some 50% of the entire police force will be directly employed in Songkran related activities.

The police hierarchy also demanded that individual stations come up with plans for Songkran that are clear.

"One item on the 8 item checklist, called for decisive action against places of prostitution if they break the law."

In other words: prostitution is perfectly okay during all other days of the year. A bit like that annual "7 Dangerous Days" road accident-prevention ritual where "decisive action" is only taken during a single week while the carnage is allowed to commence unabated as soon as Songkran is over.

So what's the goal post for that magnificent campaign? A 5% reduction in prostitution-induced orgasms compared to last year? You know, like the same reduction rate that they have in mind for road accidents.

We also need to give that valiant campaign a catchy moniker. I suggest "7 Dangerous STD-Ridden Days".

Half the police force will be splashing water?

Why not get their 50% of the police force to reduce the death toll and book drink driving and bad driving and dangerous driving. Not chasing freebies.

  • Popular Post

Is that meant to be for all prostitution, or just the small part that tourists see?

(By the way, wasn't the word, not so long ago, that 'there is no prostitution in Thailand'?)

That would, you know, result in work, and standing in the sun...

The most funny thing about Thailand is, how the police always need to be reminded to do their job.

Dinosaurs sat around the round table talking it up again, many of which will be the head honchos of said establishments. Oh, the irony!

Finished quickly as there is no prostitution in Thailand....Only massagesalons with happy endings, karaoke restaurants with a lot of hostesses to hire for .........to take home or a hotel, even today a young girl acted as a madam for a friend of 16 yrs old... But that is no prostitution of course.... That is friendship. So police don't need to do anything as they always do.. In the land of all over the world known for their sexindustry

They decided the plans they used for the last couple decades were a success, so why change. Meeting adjourned to the brothel?

A man and a woman go to a hotel that has hourly rates.  Man pays and both enter the room.  Both leave the room an hour later with smiles.  This is not prostitution.  Just two satisfied people and a happy hotel owner.  Happy Songkran 2022.

In most western countries you are correct as their needs to be some type of financial agreement prior to the act and usually a furtherance of the act.

Not sure how the law is spelled out here.

If you are a "place of prostitution" you are, by definition, breaking the law, no?
