BANGKOK (NNT) - Thai government officials will be looking into the issues affecting the prices of agricultural products. They are to come up with measures that will ease the producers’ burdens.

Government Spokesperson Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha acknowledges that prices of farm items are rising. The circumstance poses challenges to farmers, producers, consumers, and businesses.

Authorities must ensure a sufficient supply of fertilizers and animal feed and that their prices are affordable, according to the Prime Minister’s instruction. Currently, there is no approval from the administration to increase the prices of the 18 controlled types of products.

The premier also instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss with China to streamline exporting fruit to the nation.

Meanwhile, Deputy Government Spokesperson Traisulee Traisoranakul said the Cabinet this week approved the 4-year construction project for the Klong Phlo reservoir in Rayong province. The 3.56 billion baht project is slated for 2022 - 2025. It aims to mitigate water shortages for consumption and agriculture for the locals during the dry season. It is also expected to prevent floods during the rainy season.

The dam, which is part of the program to manage water resources in the Eastern Economic Corridor, will have the capacity of storing 40 million cubic meters.

for instance why is Thailand importing garlic from China?

it ruins the market...

I suspect the cost is attractive and it can be sold at a profit alongside the Thai stuff.
