COVID-19 Omicron BA.2 will supersede BA.1 in next two weeks in Thailand

The Thai Medical Sciences Department has predicted that, in less than two weeks, the BA.2 sub-variant of the Omicron variant will account for 100% of new COVID-19 infections in Thailand.

BANGKOK (NNT) - The export sector has been a key driver of Thailand’s economy, even more so during the ongoing pandemic. The Ministry of Commerce has been implementing a policy of in-depth trade cooperation between Thailand and second-tier cities, to drive exports via mini-FTAs. Thailand has now inked its third mini-FTA, this time with India’s Telangana State, to better access the market of 40 million people.

Thailand’s COVID-19 death toll exceeds 100 for three consecutive days

The death toll from COVID-19 exceeded 100 for three days in a row on today (Tuesday), with people who are over 60, those suffering from certain underlying diseases and pregnant women, accounting for 97% of the fatalities, according to Disease Control Department Director-General Dr. Opart Karnkawinpong.

฿211 million approved for study of Thailand’s first plant-based COVID vaccine

The cabinet approved a 211 million baht budget today (Tuesday) for a study of the safety and efficacy of a plant-based candidate sub-unit vaccine in boosting the body’s immune response to COVID-19, the first such vaccine in Thailand being developed by Thai startup Baiya Phytopharm.

TAT Organizes Songkran Festivities in Major Cities

BANGKOK (NNT) - The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is organizing "Amazing Songkran 2022 Celebrations" at ten temples in Bangkok, as well as the "Songkran Music Heritage Festival 2022" in Ayutthaya and Songkhla. Events will also take place in Chiang Mai, Samut Prakan and other major cities throughout the kingdom.
