Pattaya: Police chief calls on attacks on tourists to stop - resort's image badly damaged

Siam Rath reported that Pattaya's image as a tourist resort had been badly damaged after a melee involving foreign tourists and bouncers on Wednesday.

It happened late at night after closing in Soi Bua Khao.

A group of foreign tourists on motorcycles were arguing and a group of bouncers went into stop trouble, or so they claimed.

In the end CCTV caught them causing it as fists flayed.

A Thai lady called Waranya Sikasri, 34, had taken an injured Italian tourist called Vincenzo C. to file a report after he was attacked.

Yesterday Pattaya police cheif Pol Col Kulachart Kulachai called on attacks on tourists to stop, reported Siam Rath.

He promised that he would maintain order in the resort and issued assault charges against those involved.

The Thai media said it was time for good pictures to present Thailand in a good light - not these damaging images of violence especially at a time like Songkran.

Crime is up all over the world this place will not be exempt.  In fact, I fear it will increase as more people come and want to release all that pent up frustration over the past 2 years.  Getting drunk and crazy and confrontational will be on the agenda for idiots

The real effects of the decimation of the tourist industry are yet to be felt.

Fist fights amoung drunk people after closing time.  This is norm, anywhere in the world.

But maybe the video shows something completely different than drunks getting into a fight?

It does not have the greatest of reputations already I thought. Can't see a scuffle changing it drastically.

And crazy bouncers that will beat someone nearly to death, possibly disabling them, simply for acting in a way they dislike.

Apparently it shows some bouncers attacking some tourists.

These types of incident seem to be on the increase recently.

Hopefully this isn't going to be a common thing as tourists slowly start to return to Thailand.

I can see why some Thais are envious and resentful of foreign people whom they perceive as having weathered covid a lot better than them financially, but physical attacks are never OK.  They really need to turn their anger towards the people that actually caused their problems.  (Obviously this is precisely why foreigners are blamed for covid.)

Hardly surprising, given two years of anti-foreigner narratives pushed by all and sundry.

The authorities threaten people with 2 years in jail for 'stepping out of line' on Songkran. Beat tourists half to death and you go home with a note. Sounds about right.

:cheesy: head out of sand, Siam Rath. I can't remember when it was 'undamaged'.

The thought of going to Pattaya for a holiday is about as appealing as root canal surgery without the novocaine.

The resort town of Pattaya...more like a modern version of Sodom or Gamorrah. The odd alcohol fueled fight with the local bouncers should be expected and ignored. I knew some bouncers a long time ago and they looked forward to the Friday or Saturday night fracas so that they could build their reputations amongst their peers.

Thankfully easy to avoid, and pattaya gets most of them, now if the bouncers attacked they should be sacked from there jobs, but i guess in self defence its all a misunderstanding.

Now I'm relieved. No attacks anymore.

Good to have a Police! ☺️

Happened after 2 AM (closing time 11 PM).

Do some idiots need a proper curfew again?

When will these mentally retarded semi legalised thugs realise that their jobs depend for the most part on the people that they are beating up?

a real world class resort ... NOT!

Pattaya is a very dangerous place. In lesser years I'd lived there mostly in low season 2001-8 a heyday for USD GBP. It's full of dangerous vice, misery and thuggery.

  • Popular Post

If there was a serious intent to improve they would start training and licensing the bouncers as they do in the UK, where they can’t work without it.

Could do it with the police as well. CCTV reveals many of their sins.
