Experts Advise Against Contracting Omicron Instead of Getting Vaccinated

BANGKOK (NNT) - The National Vaccine Institute (NVI) has reiterated the importance of getting booster vaccinations against COVID-19 to reduce the risk of severe symptoms and death. The announcement comes after information started circulating via online media about COVID boosters being unnecessary and claiming people can simply get infected with the Omicron coronavirus variant to develop a natural immunity.

The NVI expressed concern for people exposed to erroneous information, insisting that boosters are crucial at a time when the coronavirus is mutating rapidly. It added that they reduce symptom severity, risk of death and the chance for developing Long COVID. Boosters also lower the risk of multisystem inflammatory syndrome children (Mis-C).

According to the NVI, Thailand carried out studies in Chiang Mai on the efficacy of vaccines in both January and March of this year. The studies found that although two vaccine doses did not prevent Omicron infections, they were 85% effective in preventing fatalities.

Getting a booster at the appropriate time was meanwhile able to increase transmission prevention by 34-68% and prevent deaths by 98-99%. A fourth dose has been shown to be 80-82% effective at preventing infection with no fatalities reported so far.

The NVI explained that the World Health Organization supports the administering of booster doses, based on real-world efficacy studies.

According to the NVI, booster dose coverage has only reached 35% in Thailand as of April 8. Meanwhile, patients who develop severe symptoms or die from COVID-19 tend to be members of the "608 Group," for which the NVI said booster dose coverage is still relatively low. The institute, therefore, invites members of the public and especially the 608 group to get boosted as soon as possible.

Hmm... despite my lack of training and knowledge in this subject, I was leaning towards a preference of getting infected (by omicron)  rather than the 3rd jab of MRNA... everything I was hearing ... made me feel it was unlikely to produce symptoms any worse than a cold, and ultimately give better immunity results.

In the end, got the 3rd jab......

new invention of the wheel

So natural immunity does not work ?

Au contraire, it is supposed to provide better immunity than further boosters. (Not 100% of course).

That is shockingly low, this far in. They've wasted too much valuable time patting their backs after reaching the goal of giving 70% two doses.

If Pfizer mixed the covid jab with their other famous product, Viagra, then there would be a big uptake in those seeking boosters I would suspect.

Definitely, I'd even change my opinion on the need for jabs every 2 weeks  months.

Don't worry, you'll get infected too..I had 3 Pfizer shots, still got covid.

Whilst I wouldn't go out of my way to catch it, I'm certainly not going to make huge sacrafices to avoid it. I've have enough of my time wasted with this thing, it's time to move on. If I get it, I get it.

A week off work catching up on Netflix and finishing a couple of Playstation games (plus the extra future protection of having caught it) is not the worst thing in the world.

Ignorant people still going down this uninformed 'catch the virus so you become immune' rubbish, and risking severe consequences instead of getting vaccinated and if catching it having a high percentage chance of nothing more than mild flu symptoms road. Ya can't fix stupid, ignorant, and gullible.

This seems to say that in Thailand at least there has been no recorded case of someone with 4 shots dying. Or do they mean just the people included in the study conducted in Chiang Mai? Six weeks after my 4th shot I got a case that was extremely mild, so mild that if I knew that living it up would result in a similar case again I would hardly care.

But this Thailand....not same same!

Care to share a few pointers :

How you felt

Your symptoms

Age or age bracket

Any pre-existing conditions

                 and

how long after your 3rd dose before you contracted it

Good to hear you survived it.

Suggest only Covid data from western medical institutes or specialist western professors be consulted. Departure from that path leads only to false irrational beliefs.

Even triple western jabbed outside risk groups are getting it just not dying of it. 97% all Western Covid Hospital deaths are Unvaxxed. 0.025% average western Covid death rate vs. entire population.
these are the only primary statistics that matter. Consult only gold standard sources for further reliable information.

I can answer your questions because I am at this moment in time suffering from Covid, having tested positive on Friday 15th April.

A couple of days before I actually tested positive I had been feeling a bit "rough" with headaches and a bit of a stuffy nose, but I thought it was my sinuses playing up again due to the poor air quality here.

Am now 3 days into it, and feeling very achy, especially backache, along with a slight headache, lack of energy and no appetite, but with no raised temperature or fever to speak of.

Had a bit of a sore throat, with a few spasms of sneezing and coughing, but nothing lasting.

I am 75 years old this year and relatively fit, however am suffering from what has been called a "neurogenic bladder", so have to use a catheter on a daily basis (which is an absolute pain/nuisance).

I had two AstraZeneca jabs in September and October last year, with a follow-up Moderna jab a couple of months or so later.

I did start on paracetamol for a couple of days, but have now changed to Arcoxia, mainly because I was starting to feel joint pain, probably from my football days, but it was becoming quite painful, and Arcoxia works for me in this regard.

By all accounts, I should be over the worst within the next few days and hopefully virus free by the end of this week, but will self test a few times to establish that.

Pleased that I had the vaccinations, because I would hate to think what this thing would be like without them, especially for someone my age.

Thx for sharing and speedy recovery to you.

97% all western Hospital Covid deaths are Unvaxxed. Is that “proof” enough ?  What else does anyone need to know?

Three western vax shots & that’s it for me.4th is simply absurd. Next will be the expected winter flu / Covid cocktail jab in Europe in October.

Felt like very mild flu, no fever or temperature, just blocked nose and sore throat, felt tired for 2-3 days.

I'm 59, in pretty good shape, got the booster in Sydney mid February, so got it approx 1.5 months after the booster.

The virus was quite persistent, my ATK test at day 10 was still positive.

Cycling and kayaking now, so far it seems no residual effects.

Think I got the omicron, had light flu symptoms and guy at work tested positive.

Got my booster anyway last week.
