Thai Rath reported from the south of Thailand where an unusual coastal phenomenon on an island is attracting tourists.

The island in question is Koh Nok Phao in Surat Thani where about 50 fishing families live.

A homestay has opened up on the island after it was decided in 2016 to promote tourism there.

TAT rep Nanthawan Siriphokphat said that the island was pristine with wonderful beaches and great, fresh seafood.

One of the main  attractions is a spit that forms each year for just five months.

It forms in January then dissipates in May and is like this due to coastal currents.

The homestay runs a speedboat from Donsak to the island.
