I will be arriving in Pattaya in 2 weeks, and want to open up a bank account, as a falang, with no address in Pattaya can l do this, ? (l Live in the UK)

Try the Siam Commercial Bank on 2nd Road of Kasikorn Bank on Beach Road next to Burgerking. I live in Thailand so have an address but either bank asked for proof, they just wanted to see my passport with a visa in it so come with a visa from the UK.

I'm on a tourist visa only.

Looking to start up a joint account with my girl but all the banks I've approached say they requre a WP (work permit) to go with the passport.

Any suggestions please?

I think you will find that it depends on the branch. Before I moved to Thailand, I opened an account in Khon Kaen at the Bangkok Bank, and all I needed was a passport. When I opened a new account in Bangkok, they were most insistent that I had my work permit or a letter of offer of employment. As I have a WP there was no problem, but I think that in the recent 12 months there has been a degree of tightning up on who can open an account. In the end TIT so just be prepared for many different answears.
