I am sure it was important news for many people when the CCSA decided to scrap RT-PCR tests of overseas arrivals meaning the death of the Test and Go scheme come May 1st.

I’m sure as a responsible journalist - nay columnist - I should care that ATK tests (WTF?) will be suggested thereafter.

I probably should give a monkeys that the Thailand Pass will remain in place.

But I don’t.

I am a Thai resident, you see. I only care about food. Especially Thai sweets and desserts.

So this week I was glued to all the announcements after lovely Thai rapper Milli promoted Mango and Sticky Rice with Coconut Cream at a concert in Southern California.

I tried to get to Big C to buy some as my craving hit the roof but to no avail.

In doing so it meant I had to walk past Svensons and they had a mango and sticky rice promotion at a price that was stealing money from a baby.

With dollops of ice cream on top to boot.

I piled in and made a fool of myself by drooling.

When asked whether I like Thai food, as Thais always do, I usually reply yes.

But as relationships deepen they soon discover the extent of my love for Thai food - apart from Som Tam - is really invested in sweets.

Mango and Sticky Rice is the queen.

Durian (and durian ice cream) is the King.

The princesses are foi thong (the golden strands) and other orange colored things that I never found out the name of because I was too busy stuffing my mouth full.

So Milli, if you’re reading and need help when you come back to Thailand remember Rooster. Our multicultural approach could take the mango to a whole new level.

Especially as I’m in the Big Mango.

Top story of the week was a security guard in Bangkok who got a 300,000 baht reward for sighting a missing Scottish Fold cat.

Not a bad job if you can get it.

A missing family from Sukhothai reportedly ended up in Turkey - but how much does dad owe?

In international news UK home secretary Priti Patel once again failed to live up to her first name.

She defended a plan to ship refugees from caring Britain to Rwanda.

As we all know it’s sunny and lovely 24/7 365 in Rwanda.

Finally, Earth Day was Friday.

Post pandemic - now in the age of motosai delivery Mark 2 - people are using ever more plastic.

Please forget convenience and try to say no to using too much plastic.

Please recycle and think green.

And think how we may grow more mangoes.

Rooster

Where is the real Rooster?

Being back in the uk for the first time in years reminds me oof the great variety of food in the shops and at far lower prices than in Thailand. You can keep the nasty sweet rubbish over there, give me apple pie and custard over that any day!

Mangos are cheap now, thanks to Thailand not being able to sell large quantities as previously to Russia (war) and China (lockdown)

love them

First, Rooster was banned for weeks, and now replaced with an imposter?

Is that it? And late too!

2/10 for effort. Can do better!

No SomTam for you, straight to bed and no telly!

There used to be a family of Thai desserts known as 'sticky rice and x', where 'x' was a fruit of your choice. The best known was 'sticky rice and mango'. Suddenly it has become 'mango and sticky rice' or even just 'mango sticky rice'. Why? I think we should be told.

Yes Sticky Rice and "MawMun!!! ??? Sticky Rice and Mango !!! That IS defiantly the One Rooster !!! !!! And Gods Only Food !!!... Mangos !!! and it is the season now also !!! ....

....  Like we all know the one about Eve offering Adam a Mango !!! ? Right .... Only it was Westernized in to an Apple Right ??? In the Bible ??? ... (And the genders' Changed ???) .... (Just Kidding)

Though well, arguable but the Sweet Coconut Milk that the Sticky Rice is soaked in must be the active Ingredient!!! .... Though as we all say I think, ... Without the Mango it just would not have that great Tang of a Flavor !!! .... One of my Favorite Local hits. ...

.... Though also a good one to get a bit of Flack over if you have A Blood Sugar Problems !!! .... But Pleasant times are back again !!! .... It IS Now Mango season !!! ... Well up here in the Central Thai Flood plain any way. ...

Hey you know that the woman can water, and force Feed the Mango trees with fertilizer, and some other stuff ???? so that they fruit 6 times a year !!! and not only one, I think ??? ... Still probably only One time where the trees are actually really Loaded !!! ...

...  And also History, in 2011 in the Great floods with 2 or 3 meters of water here for nearly 3 Months !!!!Just about ALL the Mango Trees died !!! as they are not flood resistant !!! (Like bamboo and the local river trees) ... ...

... And also the frogs and the Ants and flying ants that they eat, and the earth Worms !!! ... Like that 3 Month flood, did a LOT of environmental damage, that I saw, and am still seeing, .... but I have Not seen it Noted. ? ....  The flying ants and frogs are Just coming back !!! ... 2022 now = 11years Later ? .... well they might have been hear when Covid hit ? but no one saw them ??? ... Right ? as we were all trapped, somewhere else ? ... or Locked down and otherwise occupied ? if still here ???

???????????????????

You tend to go for short stories now.

Well, If this will lead to improvements I'm with you ????

Thanks Rooster, but I missed having a chuckle this week.  I will be happy when the pandemic is

over, and less than 100 people die in Thailand each day.  Seems that if you write a long column, people complain, and some complain if you

keep every thing short.  Cheers.

Shorter column is better. Tweet-sized would be best.

Who is this and what have you done with The Rooster??

I am glad Rooster? has returned even though in a somewhat shortened form. I know I am a bit late in writing this but it is better late than ever. I was afraid that he had been censored and we would not be able to enjoy his humour and knowledge of Thailand.

Welcome back Rooster. I enjoy your writings.

May the Rooster crow many times more.

Speaking of Home Delivery ... I have enough Pizza KETCHUP packets to last me for the next 25 years. Please STOP sending ketchup packets with my pizza !!! Thank you .

No, Mangos are cheap this year  because of the cool weather over the new year  and it lasted a good few weeks this year, cool weather is needed to help set the fruit,in some places they was a glut and some crops where thrown away.

Last year not a lot of mangos about ,as it was not so cool around new year and January.

I had some the other day and it was very nice.

But I keep reading that it is bad for you. Or it can be.

They've stopped paying Rooster by the word ...

Perhaps rather than proposing to process asylum seekers in Rwanda Priti Patel should adopt the policy of the country of which you are such a proud resident and simply refuse to accept all claims to refugee status. Roll up in Thailand with a hard luck story having destroyed your identification papers and see where that gets you - behind bars. Your criticism of UK policy while singing the praises of a country that is not signatory to any refugee charter is sheer hypocrisy. It's easy to demand liberal standards from others when you don't have to live with the consequences yourself.
