my question is, will this cause a further rift between Surayud and Sonthi?

Thailand's military-installed prime minister, Surayud Chulanont, says he is ready to talk with his deposed predecessor, Thaksin Shinawatra. The offer came after Mr. Thaksin, in a televised speech to a rally in Bangkok, said he wanted to return to Thailand to fight corruption charges against him and his family.
