Covid test needed at departure airport? After May 1st

Featured Replies

Thai consulate in LA website states under TR visa (90 day tourist) instructions.

"Step 3 – At the departure airport.

At the departure airport, the approved applicant is required to present

3.1 Thailand Pass.
3.2 A Medical certificate with a laboratory result indicating that COVID -19 is not detected, using RT-PCR test, issued no more than 72 hours before departure. (Unvaccinated/Not Fully Vaccinated Persons)
3.3 A Medical insurance covering all expenditures of medical treatment, including COVID-19, while traveling to Thailand in an amount of at least 10,000 USD (The insurance must cover the whole duration of stay in Thailand)."

Looks like it is updated for May 1st changes cuz of $10,000 insurance requirement but I though proof of vaccination was going to replace Covid test.

Not sure if this is correct or not.

Only if you are unvaccinated and wish to avoid 5 days quarantine.

When do the Thailand Pass application you will not need a corvid 19 test if you are fully vaccinated. The LA site apparently forgot to mention that when they updated their site.

You do need to check with airline you will be traveling on to confirm they do not require a corvid 19 test to board your flight. Some may only require a antigen test.

My bolding.

Clearly says it's not directed at vaccinated people, but it's still wrong AIUI as unvaccinated have the choice to do a PCR test before departure or a quarantine with PCR test on arrival.

Unvaccinated/Not Fully Vaccinated Persons)

You obviously cant read

Only if your unvaccinated there are a lot of countries who no longer require the test Austria being one check with the airline your flying with

Even last month no test was required to board the plane, nor for transit in Japan. Double vax, yes. I had a PCR test, and paid for it, and nobody ever asked to see it.

Rather than a new thread I,ll pop the question here, when leaving Thailand to fly to the Uk who dont require any tests for vaccine holders, are the airlines still asking for a pre flight pcr test on check in for departure in Thailand.?

I'm flying scoot June..up to now they still want pcr test before flight 72 hour vaccinated or not unless anyone heard anything ? Thnks

Hi Ubon Joe, what do you call "fully vaccinated?"

Is two jabs of vaccine sufficient or is an additional booster shot required?

Fully vaccinated is not defined on the Thailand Pass site.

It only asks for 2 vaccinations with the most recent one no less than 2 weeks before the date of entry.

This from the FAQ's for it. https://consular.mfa.go.th/th/content/thailand-pass-faqs-2

Jeez, virtually everyone has been vaccinated or already infected.

Let's just cut the BS and go back to normal life.

So if one has not been vaccinated within the last two weeks, you either need another shot or a RT PCR Covid test? I also take it that other types of Covid test are not accepted?

No, you have misunderstood.

What they are saying is that the second vaccination must have been done at LEAST 2 weeks before departure. There is no limit ion how long before. It could have been a year ago, no problem.

What is not allowed is to get newly vaccinated with 2nd dose administered less than 14 days before departure.

Protections from prior COVID infections are not ever-lasting... They diminish at some point, just as the protections from prior vaccinations tend to, especially with Omicron.

Also, immunity from other, prior variant infections may or may not provide particularly good protection against a current infection with Omicron and its latest BA.2 variant or whatever follows it in the future.

In general, the protections against becoming infected again with whatever is the current variant seems to have the shorter lifespan, whereas the protections against serious illness and death seem to be longer lasting...but again, not permanent.

Obviously.

COVID is here to stay.

WOW, I can't read.

I read that and didn't see that it only applied to Unvaccinated/Not Fully Vaccinated travelers.

My apologies.
