Thai wife finally cremated: Loving husband kept her body for 21 years after her death

Siam Rath reported that a loving husband in Bangkok kept his dead wife for 21 years after she died from natural causes.

 

He just couldn't bring himself to be parted from his dear wife.

 

The story came to light in a post online by the Petchkasem Krungthep rescue foundation.

Former soldier Sub-Lieutenant Chan, 72, told them that his wife died in 2001. After initial rites he decided to keep his wife in her coffin and not cremate the body.

 

He did this in a property used for storage in the Bang Khen area of the Thai capital. The body was kept in a lean-to, reported INN.

The couple had two boys but following the lady's death the family broke up with the boys leaving home, and leaving the dad to fend for himself.

 

He thought that at 72 he was getting old and it was time to finally say goodbye.

 

His wife had also been a civil servant in the Ministry of Public Health. 

 

The cremation took place at the temple of Wat Sakhon Sun Prachasan after a death certificate was obtained at the Bang Khen district office.

Goodness, that's a high quality coffin.

 

They don't make em like they used to. 

 

This was quite an emotional read for me. IT's a lovely sentiment, but it can't have been sanitary for anyone that went near or touched the coffin.

The smell must have been horrific even through a coffin, he didn't want to be parted from her yet kept her in storage, did he ever go there for visits ? A burial would have been better and cheaper than 21 yrs of storage.

Mental illness. Be sad for a few months maybe a year. Then move on.

 

21 years is madness. The smell and hygiene terrible.

 

Leave a rotten body for 21 years is not love. It is actually disrespectful to the woman.

 

The boys were right to leave. What sane person wants to live with a corpse?

How do you know he has mental health issues ? He knew he was getting to old and at 72 it was time to move on. So it doesn't appear he had the mental health issues that you say he had.

He chose to do what he did out of grief and a loving for his long time partner , he is wrong in your eyes , but not in his.

21 years with a corpse is not normal. Thats pretty disturbed.

 

I know death can be sad but 21 years? Madness.

At least he did not keep her sitting in a chair in the kitchen, or in bed next to him, but instead in a coffin in a lean to storage area...The man definitely suffered an extreme mental incapacitating moment when she died.  This shows that some folks are a sandwich short of a full picnic basket....of course ' my personal opinion.
