77kaoded Thai caption: Turning a crisis into an opportunity

A restaurant and bar owner in Samut Prakan had enough of being unable to make a decent living what with all the closures and restrictions caused by the pandemic.

So Jay Nok decided to close her nighttime bar and do something more profitable instead.

Sell Thailand's "King of Fruits" or durian at knockdown prices.

An office has been converted into an area to crack open the fruit and put the coveted pieces onto trays, reported 77kaoded.

And there is a steady stream of customers from 8 am to 9 pm at the shop in the Rua Bin market in Bang Plee.

Great piles of the infamously smelly fruit - the Mon Thong variety from Chanthaburi - were available for customers' perusal and purchase.

The restaurant and bar used to do a roaring trade but Covid scuppered that.

Now it's durian to the rescue.

at knockdown prices

not a phrase I'm familiar with.  Let me think:

"at ridiculously low prices!"

"at prices so low you won't believe your eyes!"

"at prices more mouthwatering than 10 bar girls after you drank 10 beers"

OMG, that was quick.  I gotta stop.....lol
