Thailand Has Become Totally Lost In Cyberspace

Thai authorities obviously know next to nothing about the internet nor how to police it. Do they have no covert ops internet divisions? :o sh1t, I'm sure a few people from TV would do a better job but... ssshhhhh... don't tell them!

Exactly. As long as there are proxy servers and entities outside of Thailand willing to host it is not difficult to circumvent the screening system. Case in point is my little buddy T. The little pervert borrowed my laptop and left behind a nasty trail of sites. He was too stupid to figure out how to use private browsing, reset or empty cache on my mac but he knew how to get to his porn via a proxy server in Europe. I gave him some censorship of the western variety to the point that I don't think he will contemplate cruising on my mac for sites featuring incontinent matrons and men scotchtaped and covered in saran wrap or whatever it was they were wearing.

What was interesting today was that some sections of True {including me, I think I'm being watched!} lost all international connexions. They have only recently reappeared, though with drop outs. The Thai sites opened like greased lightning as they say but all {including here} non Thai site were unavailable, nor traceable.

Regards

PS, on a lighter note... YouTube has announced international versions of its web video service.

The video site, owned by Google, has launched nine versions across Brazil, France, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain and the UK. Heaven forfend, no Thai version.

SJ, do let me know if your fabled connexion allows this link or not.

My (and I imagine the unknown thousands of other TT&T users) connection pop up that reprehensible video without a glitch... although I did have to click on their disclaimer that I'm over 18 prior to it opening.

It's the same one that remains at YouTube, although YouTube has removed others.

Which shows clearly how the cyber-blocking is both geographic and by ISP. It has been suggested to me that the focus for this is Bangkok and that the regions are viewed as less critical. After all outside the conurbations who has internet access?

It also highlights the point that you {and others who've PM's me} can see this link, but that the majority of Bangkok connexions can not. Since the government itself acknowledges that there is not a single blocking authority these disparities are not so surprising. This does not however invalidate the point that organised blocking of web addresses deemed unsuitable does take place and is in place as we type.

Regards

PS Note to Mods, may I request that you please remove URL from my original post above since it has served its purpose.
