Siam Rath carried a report in the lead up to the official relaxation of rules on the use of mariuana and hemp products that come into force on June 9th.

They quoted a deputy at the Ministry of Public Health called Dr Thongchai Kiratihattayakorn as saying that House representatives and the Department of Land Transport were still in the process of clarifying the law.

But his advice was not to use weed products - marijuana or hemp - and drive.

This, he admitted was not specifically the remit of the MoPH who were more concerned with the annoyance caused by smoke from weed.

The report went with the headline that those who use weed and drive could expect similar penalties to those who drink and drive.

Confusion still reigns in Thailand as to how the law will be applied and if and how it will be enforced, notes ASEAN NOW.

In a sense it is a moot point because the ingestion of more than tiny amounts of THC - the drug that makes users high - remains illegal no matter what.

Would smoking half a kilo of 0.02% THC weed actually impair anyone's driving or register on any detection system.

I'm sure it would register a sore throat.

So a phone call to friends in high places and then let off with nothing more than a slap on the wrist?

so you've never had a lit roach drop into your shoe?

Is there a police/ legal definition of what constitutes "DUI"?

And they actually need to tell the Thai public this...???

I know it's covered later in the post, but I thought that the type of marijuana that has been legalised is not able to get you "under the influence"?

As usual.. first do things than think and than ..... yeah..... no problem.. only the first days and than it is forgotten again

I feel safer already.

How are they going to detect how much you have been smoking? Breathalyzer wont!

This seems incorrect as this weekends 'clarity' of the draft laws are the 0.2 THC restriction is for extractions only..

Consumption of home grown bud will be fully legal, jury still out on what laws will govern sales.

Saliva tests is what modern countries use.. Dutch do a saliva test which is positive is then followed up with blood testing.

I have british construction workers in Holland, every couple of months one of them gets busted for DUI and has fines and Dutch driving ban.

How the hell can driving be impaired it was never that good in the first place and moreover, enforcement will be the same as Drink, hit and miss and a pure CASH COW  for the RTP

How about some free beer to go with those marijuana plants

Thais cannot handle alcohol, weed should be put on the back burner until at least road deaths hit a mere 10 a day !

Stoned driving is worse than drunk driving. I can find my way home when drunk, but haven't a clue where I am when driving stoned.

I wouldn't try the 2 together. ????????

On my shirt, lap, or between my legs, yes. But never in my shoes as they are occupied by my feet.

This is so wrong it makes me think you were stoned when you wrote it.

We already know rules are just made up as they go, and vary from officer to officer.
