Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday sentenced two Chinese men to 25 years in prison over drug trafficking and attempted murder in the capital last year. The court also jailed another accused Chinese man for two years and fined him about $500. Presiding Judge Yi Sokvuoch identified the first two accused as Hu Xing, 38; and Li Shi Yuan, 37, who were also fined $20,000 each, and the third as Mao Shi Yuan, 35.

She said that they were charged with “drug possession, transport and trafficking” under Article 40 of Cambodia’s Law on Drug Control and with “unauthorised holding of a weapon and attempted murder” under Articles 490, 27, and 199 of the Criminal Code.

Judge Sokvuoch said they were arrested by anti-drug police in the Ministry of Interior at about 9.30 pm on June 9, 2021, during a raid on their rented condominium in Chroy Changvar district’s Chroy Changvar commune.
