Siam Rath reported on a fire on the ground floor of a six story pub in Soi 2 on Silom Road in downtown Bangkok yesterday.

Bang Rak police and fire services attended the scene after a member of the public had initially tried to tackle the blaze.

It was brought under control in 40 minutes with damage limited to the first floor ceiling.

Sombat Nimmas, a 46 year old delivery man, said he saw fire and used his own extinguisher but was unsuccessful.

He then used the extinguisher in the building but was still unable to stop the fire then fire services arrived to complete the job.

Police are getting together with the owner of the pub/bar to investigate what happened.

A short circuit in the area of a transformer and air-con unit is suspected.

Scary....just enjoyed two weeks in Thong Lo on the 16th floor of a condo.......but fire escape doors either propped open or the ones that are closed are difficult to open........no sprinkler system......and I dread to think about the state of the wiring......be glad to leave.
