Sunthorn Vilawan

Police across Thailand have been told to look for Sunthorn Vilawan, mayor of the Prachin Buri provincial administrative organisation and father of Deputy Education Minister Kanokwan, who is wanted by the police and park officials for alleged land encroachment in Khao Yai National Park.

National Police Chief, Pol Gen Suwat Jangyodsuk, said today (Monday) that a countrywide arrest warrant has been issued for Sunthorn, which has also been sent to all immigration checkpoints to prevent him from fleeing out of the country.

He said that, although the statute of limitations of the case is due to expire today, police can still arrest the suspect. He also warned that anyone assisting the suspect to evade arrest will face legal action.

Has she gone "walkabout" too?

The old man must have been up to his neck in fraud and corruption to do a runner.

I don't know about running in the family as much as running in the nation. Anyone in a position to be currupt here will be corrupt. Corrupt top to bottom. Corruption is a way of life here.

It is absolutely amazing that all the activity to arrest this guy and to stop him leaving the country seems to start in earnest on the very day that the Statute of Limitations on his crime expires.

I assume this is just to try to show us plebs that great attempts have been made to arrest this individual, but despite their best efforts, they have failed.

Somehow, this seems to ring a bell with another longstanding case involving the son of a very rich and influential family.

He said that, although the statute of limitations of the case is due to expire today, police can still arrest the suspect.

As a matter of fact, nothing can happen to him legally from tomorrow onwards.

What a sleepy executive is that. Someone commits a crime and on the last day before the statute of limitations begins, the authorities do take action?

There are some rotten eggs in the law enforcement agencies.

Yep... and life he will find a way (across the border).

If the statute of limitations expires today, then will he be a free man tomorrow?

If yes, then there's no need for him to flee, and no need to forewarn immigration.
