Experiencing the merging of the past into the present in Chiang Mai where locals are proud of the city's 700-year history. Hmmm this is the same tired yarn trotted out word for word on any number of thai tourist web sites.

If you love Chiang Mai, and want to attract more tourists, tell us something new/interesting, don't plagiarise from a glossy brochure.

What was that all about? I'll tell you something nice about Chaing Mai, there is a kind man who helps out at the airport. I think he is about 60 years old, ex services, black and he told me he has lived in Thailand for the last 20 odd years. He is great.

He is I should add a volunteer. Lovely chap.
