Drunk and "stoned" taxi driver arrested after fleeing police patrol - Soju and bong found in his cab

Pol Capt Weerapong Aphaiwong of the Bang Plee police in Samut Prakan was called for back-up after an off duty airport police patrolman had trouble with a drunk taxi driver.

Pol Lance corporal Pongphan Phonchai told how he had seen a yellow and green taxi emerge from a soi as he was going home from duty at the airport.

The taxi was weaving all over the place on the Thepparit Road so he ordered it to stop.

But it drove on before Pongphan caught up with it at a bus stop outside the Huachiew Chalermprakiet University.

There the driver - 39 year old Charoensak Bunchuay - tried to assault the officer and went into his motorcycle knocking it over in an attempt to flee. All this was caught on the officer's vehicle cam.

Pongphan called for backup.

Charoensak was clearly very drunk and his eyes were all glazed indicating that he had been smoking marijuana, reported Thai Rath.

Inside the cab on a seat and in the driver's side pocket were found bottles of the Korean rice spirit Soju.

Also in the side pocket was a bong.

Charoensak was still belligerent and resisiting, daring the officers to test him for alcohol.

They did and the reading was 184 mg - well over the legal limit.

His parting shot before he was taken away was to call out to female traders in the area that he was being persecuted.

Media 77kaoded also reported on the incident with a 4-5 minute video showing various parts of the story including the driver declaring:

"I'm not drunk".

Police car was driving dangerously to return to the scene of the crime. IMO

One of many out there but there's an easy fix.

Permanently remove his taxi license, suspend driving license for one year minimum, 6-months jail, out early for good behaviour.

For info:

What does a blood alcohol level of 150 mean?
Severe impairment of driving skills. 0.15–0.2% (150–200 mg/dL) This is the blood alcohol level where a person appears drunk and may have severe visual impairment. 0.2–0.3% (200–300 mg/dL) Vomiting, incontinence, symptoms of alcohol intoxication.

"Charoensak was clearly very drunk and his eyes were all glazed indicating that he had been smoking marijuana, "

There is no evidence presented for this ridiculous assertion.  Just more fake news to bring legalization into dispute, like Chardchat's pathetic lies about the overdose death and underage overdoses.  All turned out to be fake.

Agree but he'll drive regardless because there's no real punishment here.

Driving a taxi under the influence of either is not only illegal, it is reckless, careless, stupid and dangerous.

Soon to be only one of many - 25% rise in rod deaths pending. Thais cannot handle alcohol, give them free access to weed and the roads will be even more a mix of Whacky Races, Cannonball Run and Death Race 2000

Bong in a taxi! LOL LOVE IT!!!

Better than an empty bottle if whisky

Probably customer service. It is meant for the passengers!

Absolute legend

Better to find a bong than the usual knife, axe or gun

And erratic driving that triggered the attention, pot heads should stop defending pot heads when they err.

Korean rice spirit! Nice touch

They were probably in the trunk.

Well done to the Muppets in charge, so it's not only DUI but SUI as well now.

Amazing Thailand.

Obviously not his fault, must have been the passive smoke from the Korean passengers he'd just dropped off, who forgot to take their Bong with them.
