Preah Vihear National Authority has discovered ancient Khmer script on the south door of the central tower of Ta Men temple. The discovery of the old writing has attracted the attention of experts who visited the site on Saturday to research and document the find. Kong Puthikar, Director General of the Preah Vihear National Authority, said yesterday that the script was found when technicians were clearing vegetation from the doorway.

He said Ta Men temple is in the Koh Ker resort area located in Kulen district, Sroyong commune and covers the villages of Romchek, Koh Ker and Sroyong Choeung in Preah Vihear province. Ta Men temple is next to an ancient road that connects Angkor Wat to Wat Phu, which is now located in Laos.

He added: “Ta Men temple was not previously in the Koh Ker resort area, but when we prepared the documents to be included in the World Heritage List, international experts suggested that we expand the conservation area of the Koh Ker temple resort. This expansion covers the temple of Ta Men, which is next to an ancient road.”
