Was having lunch and a drink with my girlfriend in a nice quite bar in Chiang Mai. I saw an elderly farang sit at end of bar. Next thing in a shouting voice he yelled "100 baht" and got up and left a freshly poured beer and and remainder of bottle contents and left.

 

I am not a beer drinker so not sure how much they cost but obviously was too expensive in his mind. Really not think the extra was worth the effort he put in.

 

Would be cheap for a big one, maybe 20 baht over cheap average for a small one. Nevertheless he should have checked that upfront, there are some rotten apples everywhere. Just ignore it.

Could have been anyone of a number of guys on this forum.  

 

Depends on whether it was Heineken or Chang. Cheap for a large Heineken, expensive for Chang.

I can't be bothered disputing prices here, if I think it costs too much I'll just say "mai ow" and walk away.

Depends on where you are and what kind of bar you go to.

 

If their price is 100 baht, it is 100 baht. Pay up, drink up,  leave and never return!

Haven't been in a bar for about 7 or 8 years. If I was, I'd probably be ordering a coffee.

I have been to many bars, and to be true, I never notices  prices if I like the place. Im not there to save money on theirbeer prices.

 

Im not a frequently every week drinker at bars, so maybe that makes the difference

Nope, he didn't pay. Just left bfull glass on contents of bottle on bar, shouted and left.

possibly he was mislead by some special offer, happy hours, which were advertised outside and was surprised when asked to pay. Or was asked inflated price, above what he regularly gets at that very bar. Some beer prices went up recently, I think chang. Maybe he was being cheated by waitress, who in the absence of the owner would pocket some money.

cheap charlie doesn't venture to pubs if he can get at 7/11 or even less at supermarket beers-no-brand-name or Siam Sato rice wine. And drink just outside shop or nearest park.

No issue with leaving after one drink if I feel that I have been extorted.

I often misread. Gets me into trouble sometimes.

To me, it sounds like the guy may have had to leave quick for some reason, left his beer and called out to staff the money is here....????

I check the price of everything before I buy.

It'd be stupid not to.

 

But on the other hand, I never feel the need to watch other elderly white guys when I'm out and about, unless they appear to be a direct physical threat to me.
