Football - Germany booked their place in the semi-finals of the European Women's Championship with a 2-0 victory over Austria. 

 

They face France or the Netherlands in the semi-final next Wednesday and former Germany striker Uwe Seeler, one of the greatest players in his country's footballing history, has died aged 85. 

 

He scored 43 goals in 72 games for the then-West Germany and featured at four World Cups. 

 

Tennis - The Shanghai Masters is one of four 2022 men's tennis tournaments cancelled in China as the country continues its strict Covid-19 restrictions. 

 

China hosted the Winter Olympics in February but most other international sporting events in the country have been cancelled or postponed in 2022. 

 

Chinese authorities remain committed to a zero-Covid policy.

 

Cycling - Great  Britain's Chris Froome has been forced to withdraw from the Tour de France after testing positive for Covid-19 before yesterday's stage 18. 

 

The four-time champion had shown signs of a return to form as he aims to get back to full fitness after being seriously injured in a crash in 2019. 

 

Denmark's Jonas Vingegaard is one step closer to winning the event after he extended his overall lead with a stunning stage 18 victory.
