Nature Lovers! What The hel_l Is This?

Featured Replies

Hi there

I saw this winged insect next to my house the other day. I've never seen anything like it either in real life or on TV - and I've watched a lot of nature programmes. Asked some of the seasoned locals about it, but no-one had seen anything like it before.

So can anyone either tell me what it is or perhaps direct me to a site that might have info on this. Bizarre.

Many thanks.

H.

That is one interesting looking insect. Looks like a Christmas ornament!

This bug is pictured on the main page of http://www.thaibugs.com/ If i read the site right it says it's a lantern bug Pyrops candelaria (Fulgoridae)

Hope that helps

Thanks a lot Farma.

I live in Chiang Mai near the airport and it was something of a surprise.

Thanks again for the amazingly quick responses.
