Video: Rebel PM prostrates himself to Prawit "Big Pom" Wongsuwon after he arrives on inspection visit

Picture: Thai Rath

It was a scene directly out of the Amazing Thailand book of gestures.

DPM Prawit Wongsuwon had just arrived in his fancy van to inspect a water management project in Samut Prakan.

Instead of handshakes he was greeted by MP Krungsriwilai Sutinphuak who prostrated himself - known as a "graap" in Thai - at the feet of the deputy prime minister.

The DPM looked taken aback as aids helped the MP back to his feet, this all in a video posted by Thai Rath.

Krungsriwilai was one of six MPs who voted against Interior Minister Anupong Paojinda and Labour Minister Suchart Chomklin in the House no confidence debate.

Prawit - also known as Big Pom in the Thai media - said that the air was cleared following the group not toeing the party line and there was no need for a committee to be set up to investigate, reported Thai Rath.

It would be considered by a party board to see if the rebel MPs had broken party rules.

Prior to a vote on Saturday Prawit had instructed Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) MPs to cast votes of confidence for PM Prayuth Chan-ocha and ten cabinet members.

However, six ignored the PPRP party leader and broke ranks.

The group believed that Anupong has ignored Samut Prakan's people and wanted Prawit to take over as interior minister.

Aka sufficient brown envelopes and mercedes cars have been passed to the rogue politicians in order to buy their votes

I was wondering who the rebel prime minister was as suggested by the title?

the only votes that should count are those from the Thai public, it seems that to be in government here all you need is party membership of the winning party, in the UK you cannot serve in government unless you win your seat in local elections

Groveler.

????????????

Pathetic, I would not want to get dust/dirt on my clean suit!!

Its an MP.

The news writer need to edit the headlines as it says PM. Not MP.

I guess when he sobered up, he thought he would instigate some damage control.

Culture innit.

He doesn't feel debased by doing that, in fact he's earned brownie points with it.

Of course we find it totally undignified and revolting. I've never had time for slime bags, but then he isn't - voted against the party 3 line whip in a no-confidence vote. That takes some guts in LOS.

And we didn't grow up in a country where the first picture taken of a little girl I know is a picture of her 'graaping' to her teacher on her first day at school.

I felt sick when I saw it, it horrified me. But I kept my counsel to myself. I hope I can gently point out better things in life with time and another, more mature approach to authority. Such as respect being earned, and not being expressed in such debasing forms.

Going backwards by the the "groveling" the MP displayed in the video.

Sickening scene...

He must be after a better job..... probably just the type of guy the DPM is looking for.

Ah, those old goats, it's simply ridiculous.

And the headline should read "Rebel MP", not "Rebel PM". Big difference.
