Cambodia opens new airport near Angkor Wat amid low tourism numbers
Their main beach destination has been Sihanoukville which was overrun b y Chinese Mafia and is now a slum with multi unfinished building projects. The resort is a complete mess. Yes, once you've done Angkor Wat, that is it. I often go as I like the town, and it's a break from Thailand. There are, of course, Koh Rong, Kampot and Kep, but Cambodia doesn't offer enough to hold tourists for long stays. There are long stay foreigners who can't afford Thailand with the costs required for retirement extensions etc down there, -

Pick-up Truck Crashes into Fried Chicken Stall, Killing Elderly Woman
Picture from responders. An incident occurred when a pick-up truck driver lost control and crashed into a fried chicken stall, killing an 87-year-old woman and injuring another elderly woman in Moo 8, Khao Chaiak, Mueang District, Phatthalung. The incident took place at approximately 09:45 on 18 March, along Phetkasem Road (Trang-Phatthalung inbound). Lieutenant Kreangkrai Limwongsakul, an officer from Mueang Phatthalung Police Station, responded to the emergency alongside medics from Phatthalung Hospital and local rescue volunteers. At the scene, police found the pick-up truck crashed in front of a house, with damage to its driver’s side. Near the rear of the vehicle lay the body of Mrs. Pha, also known as Aunt Sri 87, who had been sitting in front of her home when the truck ploughed into her, killing her instantly. Another woman, Mrs. Cha-on 80, suffered injuries and was quickly taken to Phatthalung Hospital for treatment. Nearby, authorities also found a car with a damaged rear, which had been hit by the pick-up truck before it veered off course. Ms. Kulsuda 26, the fried chicken vendor, recounted the harrowing moment of the collision. “I was frying chicken for customers while the two elderly women were sitting nearby, chatting with me,” she explained. “Suddenly, the pick-up truck lost control and crashed into the back of a car before ploughing straight into my stall, sending my fried chicken stand flying. I jumped out of the way just in time, but my aunt and grandmother weren’t so lucky.” The pick-up truck driver, identified as Mr. Phatsakorn, emerged from his vehicle after the crash and knelt down, apologising repeatedly. However, when questioned he refused to explain what had caused the crash. Police have since taken him to Mueang Phatthalung Police Station for questioning and are conducting a blood alcohol test to determine if alcohol was involved. Authorities are continuing their investigation to establish the exact cause of the crash and what charges will be filed against the driver. -- 2025-03-19 -
