Sanook Thai Caption: Creepy! Mystical number 13

Thai media Sanook - who are always publishing weird lottery news and numbers - made much of online speculation regarding the number 13 yesterday.

This in the aftermath of the horrific fire in Sattahip at the Mountain B pub.

The media - saying it was locals and netizens who were speculating - said that the number 13 was known as "unlucky" and having mystical properties.

As "evidence" of the misfortune and connections they said several things.

Firstly, that 13 people died initially in the fire before another succumbed in hospital.

Secondly, that it was 13 years since the last major tragedy of this kind at Santika pub at New Year 2009.

Thirdly, that the Mountain B incident happened on the 5th of the 8th month - these add up to 13.

And fourthly that the letter B in the name looks like 1 and 3 side by side.

They also mentioned that in a promotional video for Mountain B back in June pyrotechnics were used.

What?  Nah, impossible.  It must be the number 13.

Oh, your doctor cut off the wrong arm?  Oh, must be the number 13.

Oh, you got killed by a drunk driver who did some micro-sleeping?  13!!!

Oh, Monkeypox and COVID?     13? NO!!!!  In that case, dirty falang.

I know what lottery number I'm buying!

Countless young kids dead and our hosts dig up this kind of nonsense just days after the event.

I am glad I chose to live here and wasn't born into a society that thinks along these lines.

I'm just amazed tv bothers with it.

Unlucky for the survivors who have horrific burns... a lifetime of misery and pain lays ahead for them.

I hope the owner has deep pockets, they will be paying out for decades to come.

Owner will do a runner at some point, if not already.

It's the way they do things here.

They do talk about it in a joking way, it's not serious

Lol that's exactly how I feel about where you appear to come from!

Bit of a moot point now since the death toll is at 15
