National – The Royal Thai Police on Monday, August 8th, warned the public of large gatherings and mingling as they could face 2 years of imprisonment or a fine of 40,000 baht for violating the regulations to prevent Covid-19 spread.

Police Deputy Spokesman Krissana Pattanacharoen revealed that Commissioner Suwat Chaengyodsuk instructed the official agencies nationwide to inspect high-risk areas and monitor activities that include large gatherings.

If found, the authorities could prohibit such activities if they did not have permission from the Bangkok governor, provincial governors, or the provincial administrations, according to the government’s recent issue of prohibiting assembly and large gatherings and mingling that causes Covid-19.

Are Thai prisoners still packed in like sardines? If so the police would be sending people into further crowded places.

It really doesn't matter if the streets are full of people protesting against the government. Last time it happened it achieved absolutely nothing, and the time before that it resulted in the army overturning a democratically elected government.

talk about showing your weakness.

It at least puts these fascists under international scrutiny. If only to concede points in some shonky "trade deal".

The world doesn't give a rat's fart about Thailand. It's an insignificant South East Asian backwater which plays no part at all on the international stage, a country known primarily for its ladyboys and prostitutes.

Classic ploy to suppress opposition to govt.  Fooling no one.  Covid emergency long over, but convenient to sustain State of Emergency powers for Pray-hoot.

Crush democracy .. not  far behind Myanmar in crushing any decent ...

Defining illegal is of course discretional ????

I think you will find that the truth is "Gathering outside is forbidden" as it could be dangerous for getting rid of unelected PM's and illegal governments.

Serious question, does anyone know how many people constitute a gathering?

A not so veiled threat if ever I saw one.

The world government 'elites' seem to have now embraced totalitarianism.  It's not 'just Thailand.'
As such, there are now efforts to outlaw protests as well as speech that doesn't conform to official narratives.  It's not a good sign.

The democratically  elected government came about by mass demonstrations. In the 70s the army labelled the young  democracy activists 'communists ', hung them from lampposts and burned them to death.

Suggesting it has something to do with APEC would be the junta excuse.

Sadly the junta is petrified of schoolchildren.

When / if we embrace a "digital economy" it will get a lot worse. You might get automatically fined just for posting that.

All laws here are designed to enrich the police who can choose which and when to enforce them. This is a bonanza & will ensure the invisible RTP will once more be seen on the sois.

I agree with you that it isn't unique to Thailand. In the UK police now arrest people for 'Non Crime Incidents' people can be placed on a non crime incident database without their knowledge. When the right people complain about them. One elderly chap was arrested for a humorous post on facebook which showed that four LGBTQRSTUVWXYZ flags formed a swastika, they sent 8 officers to arrest him and hancuffed him for not committing a crime.

Well, well, here we go again ......... time to clean up this place, once and for good!
