PM candidates: Prayuth is "petulant", "Ung Ing" is "inexperienced", Prawit "too old", Anutin "poor speaker", says poll

INN reported on the Thai public's perception of the main candidates to be Thailand's next prime minister.

Super Poll asked people to rank the candidates' strong and weak points.

2,025 people responded to the poll from 9th to 13th this month.

Incumbent Prayuth Chan-ocha was seen as loyal by 45.1%, hardworking for the nation by 34.8% and good in that he opened the country to the Saudis by 34%.

But 55% thought he lacked self-control and was easily angered or petulant, 51.5% thought he'd just been around too long and 48.4% thought he was hopeless at handling real issues.

So what of fresh face Paetongtarn Shinawatra, daughter of fugitive ex-PM Thaksin?

She was given the thmbs up for loyalty by only 20.1% but came out well that she was a new face with 43.7% and 46.3 liked the fact she was Thaksin's daughter.

She is known as "Ung Ing" in the Thai media.

On the minus side 42.8 mentioned her inexperience in politics, 40% said she hadn't done anything of note and 32% said she was not proven under pressure.

When it came to Prawit Wongsuwan, the current deputy PM and Prayuth's right hand man, was seen as well connected and able to do something about people of influence by 39.2% but 62.75% thought he was too old and 34.9% thought he lacked communications skills.

Health minister and DPM Anutin Charnvirakul was given a 41.3% thumbs up for loyalty, 45.9% for his Covid response and 40.7% for economic work.

But he was criticized by 37.2% for his lack of self-promotion and 30.8% thought he was just a hopeless speaker.

Finance minister and head of the democrats Jurin Laksanavisit and Move Forward party chief Phitha Limcharoenrat also featured in the poll.

You mean by his misquotes of Farangs being dirty, or are the reason the Covid virus was spreading, or one of his many other Gaffes....It has not stopped his career as of yet.

  • Waste of time poll,  they won't get him out.

Brings to mind Boris, Sunak, Truss ..... would you rather be snake bit, shot or water tortured.

Perhaps if the country was given a none preordained and free general election with no coercion, then maybe they could allow the winning party to choose their own Prime Minister.

Its never likely to happen, but I guess I can dream.

Loyalty to whom?

Do you really ask that ?????????????

To themselves of course. What else????????

The likes of Trudeau (only 28% favourable in most polls) and Biden (approval of 38%) show how easy it is to get by in modern "democracies", even  when the vast majority of the nation think you are dumb as a stick.

So these Thai runners should give themselves a pat on the back for scoring so well.

The photo in the op reminds me of the movie Brewster's millions where Brewster campaigned with the slogan "None of the above" ????

Better to have someone that is unexperienced, than a bunch of the Dictator team. And also all the men are as everyone know terrible, so if Thai people can think the woman is the best choice.

But as always when the dictatorship rules, the election will be rigged like last time. With 100k votes, but only 50k could vote ????????????

Precisely, which is why I'd like to see the poll question,

Actually there's one other person to whom they are also loyal!

Honestly haven't met anyone who likes any of these candidates.

Anutin is pretty much considered a dip**it in our village.

Loyalty to the Lord Baht!

I know many people would have criticized the candidates for the Tory job in the UK, but sheesh, any one of them would have been better than this lot.

Surely you’re  not referring to the Thai voting system as democratic. Where senators were placed in their position by the military dictators?

It appears that if you have lots of money, anything is acceptable in Thailand????

Remove the power from the army and make a real democratic system with true choosen Government. No 250 appointed MP's and please no Shinawatra too.. The family has money enough, but drop the charges for the media shares of other candidates and give them a oppurtunity to show that young blood can improve the country... With these old conservative unwilling and undemocratic Government Thailand will only stay in 19th century

So what's the details???

Yet, you've seemed to have discounted the most influential and controlling entity from the lust of savouring a democratic system.....

I'm always taken aback as to those here that consistently shed their ill-knowledge about how things are here.

Repeating over and again.

Exactly my thoughts. The OP makes it look like each prospective candidate had their own, individual questions.

Remove the idealistic Constitutional aspect from your comment and you'll be right.

Prawit able to do something about " people of influence" - he is there for the "people of influence"!

And how anyone can accuse Anutin of lacking "self promotion" - really?

And doing a ok job about covid? Have they forgotten the non working chinese vaccine? And still wearing facemask? Really?

This is a totally useless poll with different questions to the different candidates..

About sums it up.  Anybody else?
