I was born in Bangkok to Bangladeshi parents in 1982.  At the time I was not eligible for Thai Citizenship.  I have heard that the laws have changed since then.  I would like to know whether I am eligible for Thai Citizenship and how I would go about applying for it?  I currently live in the States.

I have lost my original Thai Birth Certificate.  I have an official translation, done by the Thai Embassy in Bangladesh.  I contacted the Embassy in Washington, but they said that I would have to return to Thailand to get a new copy of my Birth Certificate.  I would appreciate any information on how to replace my lost Birth Certificate.

Regards,

Bashar

A Thai citizen working for my company who needs a new birth certificate because the old one has become unreadable, was told by the local authorities she could only do this at the appropriate office in the municipality were she was born, which is far away from where she lives presently, and also she was told she had to go there personally in order to sign for it.

What type of documentation does one need to obtain a lost birth certificate? My wife has two boys who are now in Hawaii but their original birth certificate was lost. We have copies of their certificates but my wife wants new certificates for the boys NOW for some reason even though we have no reason to have them at this time.

AFAIK a birth certificate can never be re-issued - even for a change the week after it is made. Only copies and amendments after original issue I believe. But hope i am wrong.

You should be able to get a certified copy or copy of the entry into to register to replace the original. That will be enough.

The document must probably gotten from the amphur and you might need to show a police report about how it was lost. Best is to contact the amphur and see which documents they need. They will also be able to tell if you can authorize someone to get the copy of the birth certificate from you.
