Covid-19 drugs to be ready for public distribution nationwide in September

The Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has granted permission to pharmacies nationwide to distribute Covid-19 medicines for home isolation patients, starting September 1st.

 

CCSA spokesperson Dr. Taweesilp Visanuyothin told the Associated Press after the CCSA general meeting this afternoon, August 19th, that the Public Health Ministry had accelerated the process of Covid-19 drug registration for general use while the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) had prepared the drugs for distribution to the general public.

 

According to the spokesperson, the available Covid-19 drugs in storage include 5 million tablets of Favipiravir, 6.76 million of Molnupiravir, and 3.8 thousand of Remdesivir, and the amount is sufficient for local distribution.

Unfortunately, the only really useful drug is Paxlovid.

There is no shortage of Paxlovid globally.  Germany is going to throw away millions of doses.

Why doesn't Thailand have Paxlovid?

(oh, i just remember the story of vaccinations here, Sinocrap and all this....)

Big problem with Paxlovid is that it had interactions with mzny other drugs. Cannot be taken by people on stayins,  many heart meds etc -- the very people at highest risk. 

 

Also costs about US $500 for a 5 day course.

And you can get a rebound infection when you stop taking it.

That's correct. 

They can often still take it, but their regular medication may have to be modified or suspended, and the effects have to be monitored. That means supervision by a doctor,  you cannot just give these patients a pack of Paxlovid and tell them just to take it.

But there are many other patients. 

And it's the only medication that really works. 

 

500 USD BTW is the official US price in the US medical system.

Never compare US medical prices to anywhere else. Always divide by 5 or 10.

The government should have always allowed Hospitals and pharmacies to purchase there own medicine.

 

Thailand would have been in a much better position a year or two ago.

Here's the list of interactions - see Box 2. Statins are on the "temporarily withhold" list.
