In Spain's La Liga Barcelona won 4-1 at Real Sociedad, Villareal beat Atletico Madrid 2-0 at the Metropolitano Stadium and Athletic Bilbao defeated Valencia 1-0.

In Serie A in Italy Napoli continued their impressive start to the season by beating Monza 4-0. AC Milan drew 1-1 at Atalanta.

In Ligue1 in France leaders Paris St Germain won 7-1 at Lille with Mbappe scoring after only eight seconds, and German champions Bayern Munich also scored 7 without reply in the Bundesliga at Bochum.

Tennis - France's Caroline Garcia created history with victory in the women's final at the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati.

The 28-year-old defeated Petra Kvitova 6-2 6-4 to become the first qualifier to win a WTA 1000 title. The world number 35 is now set to return to the top 20 rankings for the first time since 2017.
