Filipino national charged for death of relatives

A Filipino national living in Cambodia was handed an initial 10-year sentence for ‘intentional aggravation’ which lead to the violent death of his sister and brother in law in September 2021. Yi Sok Vouch, Judge of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court and Sam Rithy Veasna, Representative of the Prosecution, announced the handing down of the sentence yesterday.

The man – named as Yabes Fermin JR Suyat, 51 – was sentenced to 10 years for intentional aggravation. The crime took place on September 10, 2021 after a dispute between the perpetrator and the victims – his sister and brother-in-law – in an apartment shared by the victim and the assailant in Boeung Trabek, Chamkarmon, Phnom Penh. The victims were staying at the apartment to provide care to the assailant.
